Another Chump: Walks With Whispers Believes the Occidental Lie

July 2, 2009 at 12:29 am 33 comments

You know, when a group like ours that does not exist sets out to not-actually release a report containing an utter lack of an Occidental College transcript for Barack Obama, it just amazes me. No, it’s not our utterly fictitious act that is so impressive. Any non-existent entity can not do anything, after all. Or after nothing at all, (not) actually. Sigh. Writing from nonexistence is a bit complicated.

But to get back on track, what really impresses me is that despite the multiple indications of the non-existence of the “Americans for Freedom of Information” group in gold-standard fact-check sites all over the web, for months on end reminding people that any claims by the “Americans for Freedom of Information” are utterly bogus and without a shred of documented evidence whatsoever, there are still some chumps out there taken in by all this!

Take “Walks With Whispers,” a fella who posts over at the fishingbuddy.com website. Why, he just cut and pasted the classic made-up hoax that pretends to be from the Associated Press and makes up the fake group “Americans for Freedom of Information” out of thin air… all to make the false claim that Barack Obama somehow registered at Occidental College as an Indonesian citizen.

Ya big silly, Walksy, ya gotta check these facts on Google if ya don’t want to look like a chump. Unfortunately, if ya looks like a chump and ya cuts and pastes like a chump, chances are you’re a chump.

Because he applied as a foreign student under Barry Soertoro (his step father’s last name)…and if we are all wrong why doesn’t the college just print his application/

Show me the documentation for this claim. I would love to see it… WHOOSH! What was that sound? Oh, dear, it was the sound of “Mindy” going on to another website to cut and paste her comment! WHOOSH! There goes another one! They’re like Canada Geese, except without the wings, or the feathers, and they hate black people.

just received this from one of the wing-nuts in my address book. how wonderful to be able to shoot your non-site right back at him. he won’t believe it, of course, and won’t even bother to respond; he’ll simply forward another ‘obama is the anti-christ’ email. don’t know why i continue to try and show him and others of his ilk the errors in what he sends. maybe i’m the ‘chump of the day.’!!

Hmm, perhaps they just didn’t know how to verify if it was in fact true. The true nut jobs are people like you who want socializm… if you want it move to Cananda or Germany. Enjoy paying the extra in taxes and waiting in line…

Hmm, HMFIC. It sure is easier for you to lump everyone who disagrees with you into the “Cananda” “socializm” camp, isn’t it?

If you think that the only problem is that “they just didn’t know how to verify if it was in fact true,” then why don’t you go ahead and show ’em? Come on, show us all! Verify that it’s true! Should be easy, right?

Go find the original AP article. Then go find the released Occidental College information. Then go find some actual group called Americans for Freedom of Information — one that existed before the hoax message started circulating in January of 2009. That’ll be a good start; then you can verify the rest of the information contained in the hoax e-mail.

        Why, it’ll be easy!

HMFIC doesn’t care if it is true as long as it verifies what he already believes.

        These are HMFIC’s people:

      • 8. Ronnie Bray  |  November 28, 2009 at 10:56 pm

        HMFIC:

I believe your fundamental difficulty is your inability to comprehend the difference between GOP-Related Home Grown Terrorist Rednecks and the simple essence of socialism.

From your remarks about Canada/Germany, it seems that you have no trustworthy information about the nature of these socialist states.

If you believe everything that comes out of Limbaugh’s obscene rantings, and the direct lies of Palin, Bachmann, O’Reilly, Hannity, and other right wing Lunatics, then you are doomed to remain forever in ignorance about the real world.

What you are buying from them at the cost of handing over your mind to their unreality, is what differentiates normal human beings from turnips, and that is exactly where they want you.

I lived in England, under a welfare state since 1848, when the National Health Service [NHS] was established. You can not imagine a greater boon and blessing to the masses of underpaid and over-neglected ordinary people that made Britain Great.

It is true that there have been waiting lists in the past for elective surgery, and the high water mark of on-elective surgery waiting lists reached the mountain top under the Tories,. that is, political Conservatives, buddies to Republicans, that is really a boys’ club whose members are largely from The Old Boy’s School of privilege, wealth and power.

However, when Tony Blair’s New Labour Party took the reigns of Government with a landslide – like Obama – he modernised the platform of Socialism, kicked out Clause 4, you will know what that was, being an expert on socialism.

He also put the brakes on the weary old Tory policy of underfunding the NHS and other vital welfare services, and increased the number of doctors, nurses, new hospitals, clinics, and put the NHS back on its feet after the Tories had been poisoning its roast beef for eighteen years.

Waiting times were slashed from years to days, and alternative facilities were made available if one hospital’s roster was too full.

Therefore, the old bleat from ignorant political shouters has been silenced in the UK, and the people of the UK are enjoying more, better, and more advanced health care than was dreamed about by the Tory Machine.

Every time the Government [Blair/Brown] put a bill before the House of Commons to up-fund necessary public services, the Tories howl about it and vote against it.

Tory run town councils regularly cut funding from services to the most vulnerable members of the Great British public.

Now to remove the veil from your eyes: The British Health Service is one of the best in the world. US Healthcare systems do not even come close to the British system, either in quality of care, quality of staff, technologies, curative therapies in every field, and cost.

The number of deaths in the US by cross-infection, wrong diagnoses, incorrect medication, wrong dosages, surgical errors, procedures performed on wrong patients, post-operative complications, and iatrogenic infections is epidemic.

There is little to boast about, but much to gain by shadowing Europe’s Social Health Services.

The number of unnecessary surgical procedures performed on patients in the US is a blight, since money is the aim of highly paid and sometimes greedy physicians and clinicians.

All medical care, from visits to the GP [PCP], appointments with clinicians, specialists, surgeons, dieticians, speech therapists, physiotherapists, X-ray Departments &c, are free at the point of service.

It is not a FREE health service. Those in employment pay a percentage of salary as their contribution to National Insurance. NI is funded from this source and the cost is by far and away significantly less than monthly premiums to US HMO’s.

In the UK NHS there is no rationing, no death panels, no patient neglect. Everyone gets the treatment they need, based on the surgeon and physician’s diagnosis and prognosis.

There is not bureaucrat, governmental or hospital administrator that has any say in who gets treated and how they are treated. It is always only and ever a strictly medical decision.

The UK has a better record of keeping patients alive than the USA, and 100% of the population has direct access to health care at every level.

When a British worker reaches retirement age, 65, he or she makes no further contribution to the cost of medical care, but continues to receive whatever is needed at the hands of some of the best medical and nursing staff anywhere in the world. Their Old Age Pensions are not touched, unlike the USA where recipients of Social [socialist] Security pensions pay about a fourth or third of it for Medicare.

British subjects reaching 60, have all their prescription medicines free. Before that, whatever prescription is filled by the chemist [Pharmacy] costs a single standard charge per prescription regardless of the cost of the medicine.

It seems that you also do not know how to verify what I write as true. My authority and expertise in this matter is founded on my being born in England in 1935 and apart from a couple of years abroad in the British Army I remained there until 2000.

There are differences, vast differences, but you folks are so ignorant and believe everything the loudmouthed brigade decide to spew out and keep the gullible under control.

How any REAL Red-Blooded Patriotic Thinking American can believe that leaving 46.3 MILLION Americans with no access to healthcare makes America GREAT is asleep at the wheel of truth.

How any True American can go about whistling while 12 MILLION Americans deemed to have ‘pre-existing conditions’ by the same HMOs that have been accepting inflated premiums from them, are denied life-saving treatment on the say-so of some diminutive office clerk in HMO Towers, is beyond humane understanding.

Such careless and blind inhumanity to the sufferings of others is not the ‘Way of the West’ and was the philosophy of Range Barons, but never the thinking and behaviour of those that loved their neighbours and maintained the ‘Code of the West,’ Regardless of cost.

If America fails, it will not be because of socialist systems such as VA, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, or any of the 100 plus socialist systems that have been part of the fabric of American life for well over half a century.

If America fails, it will be because of continuing corporate greed, and the lack of compassion for the weak that lurks like a viper in the bosom of the selfish.

I received this email. I went to snopes to see what they knew. I read the claim that the website did not exist, until it was creadted to discredit the email. I decided to check for myself, and entered http://www.americansforfreedomofinformation.com/. I wanted to read the debunking phrase for myself. Lo and behold, there was a website http://www.americansforfreedomofinformation.com/.

However, it wasn’t a site debunking the email, but one confirming it. If there had been a website (which normall must be registered for at least a year), that was a spoof, then how did the website I landed at SUPPORT the claim?

IF there is any conspiracy by people in power to cover-up Obama’s actual birthplace, I wouldn’t put it past them to be able to get Snopes to print the information they have on their site. Too bad. I’ve always looked to Snopes for the truth.

I think the terrible, awful incorrect comma usage alone on that site is sufficient to discredit it. Someone who isn’t aware of the fact that “whereabouts” is one word, and that it isn’t appropriate to have a sentence such as, “But, it isn’t.” is not someone from whom I would choose to get my information.

I went to that site as well. She(the site-owner) thinks to be a citizen your parents have to be born in the US, so she believes that because Obama’s father wasn’t a citizen then he isn’t a citizen even though he was born in Hawaii, which is (and was when he was born) part of the United States, for the geographically challenged. The 14th amendment clearly states that if you’re born here, well, you’re a citizen, duh.

That’s the problem with these types, if they don’t care about reality, they can’t be reasoned with.

What upsets me most about the idiots (my friend included) who fall for crap like this and keep it in circulation is that they obviously have computers, thus the means to investigate the validity of this kind of garbage but, like lemmings, they choose to blindly follow the rest of the idiots instead. I just received another email forwarded to me to day. This hoax STILL exists!!. Oh well, I guess it is the old saying “if it quakes like a duck, it must be a duck”.. Because Obama sure behaves as if he doesn’t honor our constitution or care what the majority of Americans wish for our country. I suppose I can’t blame the “foolish” for falling for this email still. They MUST be trying to find a way to explain to themselves how a man like this could become President and why he behaves as he does… I guess the good news is his true ideals have now been outed. It took a Carter to bring about a Reagan… The President following Obama’s single term is sure to be the best we have had in a while.

I/m a strong Republican but I don’t believe this Occidental College enrollment stuff.

But the question lingers – If he is a proper Natural Born Citizen (as required by the Constitution) … and remember: He claims that he was a SCHOLAR and Professor of the Constitution,,

Why has he spent over 1.7 MILLION DOLLARS in legal fees to hide and protect all of his background records?????

Besides his actual birth documentation, the still-concealed documentation includes kindergarten records, Punahou school records, Occidental College records, Columbia University records, Columbia thesis, Harvard Law School records, Harvard Law Review articles, scholarly articles from the University of Chicago, passport, medical records, his files from his years as an Illinois state senator, his Illinois State Bar Association records, any baptism records, and his adoption records.

That’s 1.7 million dollars of YOUR MONEY – Campaign Contributions

And he could PROVE HE QUALIFIES for a simple letter releasing his documents to the public, which is what McCain did during the past presidential campaign.

He obviously doesn’t care a whit about YOUR MONEY.

Not just you, halwarren. Anybody out there. Can any single living person out there show me this document?

    Hey Ronnie Bray,
I understand that the site and email are a hoax, but to hear you spout off about the UK’s health care system, an area about the size of the state of Utah, (84,000 square miles vs. 3.7 MILLION square miles total US) with a total population of 61 Million (combined California and Texas are about 60 Million) makes me laugh out loud! You are trying to compare a mountain to a mole hill!

Just by sheer volume “The number of deaths in the US by cross-infection, wrong diagnoses, incorrect medication, wrong dosages, surgical errors, procedures performed on wrong patients, post-operative complications, and iatrogenic infections” in the US is going to be higher. I’d really like to see a percentage of these items vs. number of cases handled.

You are comparing an country that has 720 persons per square mile to a country with 83 persons per square mile. That in and of itself is going to create some of the issues you bring up.

While I don’t like what some of my conservative Brethren say and do, what I can’t stand is the socialist mindset that because I made something of myself it is my “DUTY and OBLIGATION” to give it to someone that WON’T help themselves, to someone that EXPECTS me to pay them to not go to work, to TAKE from ME and HAND OVER to them medicine, food, heat. The government can not give something away for free without taking it from someone else.

When a society starts looking for and expecting handouts there is no reason or incentive for achievers to achieve. Socialism and “the Collective Good” doesn’t work. China is now a world power because they have a HUGE disparity in class. Those that work menial jobs and those that get rich from that work. Russia is the same way. France – without the US support in industry and technology (no I am not talking about WWI or WWII) would not have two nickles to rub together.

The American system of Liberal and Conservative works. When we have an Executive Branch of one party and a legislative branch of the other, this country is on top of its game and we are all prosperous. When one party gets control of both, that is when things go down hill and with a zealot like Obama leading the charge, and nuts like plagiarizing Joe and Pelosi and Reid our great county is going to be hurting for a long time from what they have done and are planning.

Chip, just because “you” would stop working if someone paid your way, doesn’t mean everyone else would. You can’t make that generalization without some proof. Besides, every system has waste. You can’t have 100% efficiency. The point is, we are a community and we need to look out for one another. I pay my taxes whether I get direct benefit from it or not (such as paying taxes for schools, when I have no, nor do I wish to have any children) because I live in a community. I gladly help out others, because I would like the same in return should I ever find myself in that situation. To say that people would stop working simply because they are given a helping hand is ignorant. As I stated before, yes there will always be freeloaders. We have them in our households, families, communities, etc. But to cut off the majority for the actions of a minority, is irresponsible. Here’s another example to give you a clue. Why are businesses in business knowing that there will always be some losses from fraud, those that don’t pay, can’t pay, etc. From your logic, a business should not be in business, because there will be some customers who don’t pay.

One last thing, can you give examples or proof how this country will be hurting and for how long because of what ” a zealot like Obama leading the charge, and nuts like plagiarizing Joe and Pelosi and Reid” have done?

As for Soicialism? That is a distraction. If one cannot/will not be responsible for themselves they are ultimately doomed no matter what form of government they exist in. Sadly, if there are enough people who can’t/won’t, then we are all doomed, period. Compassion? That’s a personal trait that cannot be legislated or demanded in any other way. as convinced of your cleverness as of your intellectual superiority, it seems. so you spread a rumor that, to the average person, looked very much like fact, so you could presumably enjoy a laugh or two at their expense. but it must be said that the laugh is on you, because not only did your audience not get the joke–because it most certainly was not told in such a way as to be amusing or at least an obvious attempt at a joke–but you caused real harm with it, and the harm continues.

you should know by now that untruths on the internet, and the single-mindedness with which many of those trolling the internet pursue any and all ammunition in support of their agendas or half-baked ideas, can in the most egregious cases take on a life of their own. you’ve contributed greatly to that, if not achieving that threshold in and of itself. it’s easy to shrug and say “it’s not my fault if people couldn’t figure out it was a joke,” and to mock them. ah, but as i just said, it’s more YOUR fault than theirs.

perhaps someday the value of discretion will be a factor in what you say in public forums, and perhaps you’ll even acquire the rudiments of successful satire. until then, realize that your smugness only makes you look worse.
